Database Failure and New Beginnings

About a week ago the database that drives this website became corrupt for reasons unknown. This meant the site would not render as it should. Fortunately I had a backup, but less fortunately the backup was about eight weeks old. Old lessons are always learnt the hard way!

I've spend the last few days restoring the database, backing up the site as I go, and trying to work out what I've lost - not much it seems. Fiddling with the site also provided the perfect opportunity to do a clean-up and give it a slightly new look and feel - one that I hope is a bit more businesslike. I also gave cause to review the content. By and large I am happy with the blog-content, but less so with the static pages. I also need to update the bibliography, which remains a popular link. These will be my chores in the coming weeks, noting my doctorate must take priority. I also plan to blog a bit more frequently.

Hopefully the new look and feel doesn't cause too much confusion for my loyal readers. Your support matters.

Best Regards and Happy New Yea

Re: Database Failure and New Beginnings

Yesterday I discovered the bibliography module was quite corrupt, and had lost all the abstracts.   Rather than try and rebuild it which could take some hours I have decided to do away with it.  Instead I will post my Endnote library and an export from it in the coming week.
