Upcoming Presentations and ConferencesIn the coming weeks I am presenting to diverse groups on topics ranging from Business Network Analysis™, to ethics and leadership, and the RAAAKERS™ framework. In keeping with my open sharing practice I will post all papers and presentations to this website, if I haven't already done so. This week I am presenting to the Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) on leadership and ethics. AMSA is the peak representative body for medical students in Australia. I expect them to be a challenging group, but in turn I intend to challenge them by using the 1994 Rwandan genocide as my case study. My presentation will build on the theme that ethical dilemmas create leadership challenges and poor decisions create ethical dilemmas. The following week I will be giving two presentations to the Defence Operations Research Symposium, which will be attended by Defence scientists from Australian, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Operations Research is the application of the methods of science to complex problems arising in the direction and management of large systems of people, machines, materials and money in industry, business, government and defence. My first presentation is titled "Visualising Collective Knowledge to Understand a Portfolio of Projects ", and talks about how BNA™ techniques can be applied to Operations Research. The second presentation is a case study where a colleague and I successfully applied the RAAAKERS™ framework - more on this in a later blog-post. RAAAKERS™ stands for responsibility, authority, accountability, awareness, knowledge, experience, resources and systems. I'm then off to Singapore to catch up with Patrick Lambe ,and to participate in KM Singapore 2008 . I note on the website that I am listed as an "international expert" - I'm not sure I would describe myself that way! Anyway I will be presenting a RAAAKERS™ case study on a large health organisation in plenary session, and probably a BNA™ case study as part of the case study café. The case study café sounds interesting. Case presenters are given six to eight minutes to pitch their case to the audience - without any PowerPoint slides. The pitch provides the essence of the story and why it was a valuable learning experience. I will post my presentation to this site just before I leave for Singapore, and I understand Patrick will record the case study café for uploading as a Podcast or Podcasts. One day after returning from Singapore I will be presenting at actKM 2008 . My topic is "Business Network Analysis™: A Knowledge Cartography Methodology". actKM 2008 occurs on the 14th and 15th of October at University House, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. Later that week I attend the Australian Military Medicine Association's annual conference at Wrest Point, Hobart from the 17th to 19th of October inclusive. I'm presenting a paper on the RAAAKERS™ profiler, but my real reason for going is to just sit back and listen to and tell stories with a bunch of friends and acquaintances - catching up with friends and acquaintances always matters! There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun. |
